Better Care Medical

In countries where medical care is free. . .how does that work?

I've asked several questions on here in the past about medical stuff here in the United States. Until I was enlightened by some Yahoo members from other countries, I was unaware that many countries have free medical care. So how does that work? And why doesn't the United States do that? By the way, in NO WAY shape or form am I trying to start any type of political debate, I am simply trying to educate myself on the subject. Thanks:-)

  1. It's not "free" It's paid for through taxes
  2. It is paid for by taxes, so it isn't free. The problem with that system is that you are forced to pay for it even if you never use it. For example: citizen A eats right and exercises and pays $500 per month in taxes for medical services he never uses. Citizen B eats crap, smokes, never exercises, and doesn't wash thier hands, they also pay $500 per month in taxes but use $2000 per month worth of services. As you can see, this system is ineffiecient, immoral, unethical, and just plain stupid. "Free" health care costs a ton of money, but also costs your freedom and morality.
  3. Taxes are much, much higher, the quality of medical care goes way down, and waiting lists become king.
  4. Insurance companies are totally replaced by buracracy. Expect no improvements, no real change except for even slower service and less research and development, due to that fact. Rather than money coming out of your paycheck for the insurance, it will come out of your paycheck for the government, but there will be no competition to keep them from hiking your rates.
