What do you think about women that are adamantly against medical care during pregnancy?
What do you guys think about people that are adamantly against everything in the medical field that are pregnant? I mean the women that don't get regular care, like the women that get no testing, nothing done.I think it's just ignorant. It's the person's decision, but I think it's better for a safe birth to get normal care.I mean without most of the normal anything during pregnancy. The women that refuse induction, that stuff. Not to mention,no vaccinations after the baby's born for the baby.

- This is just my opinion and iam entitled to it just as everyone else, they are ignorant.
- I think those women really really dont have the babies best interests at heart, they just want to seem different and superior and they come off as bad parents. Anyone who truly cares about whats best for their baby before themselves or anyone else would get prenatal care
- It's ONE'S choice! and their expressing it!
- as you said, it is ignorance. And stupidity....but people will always have their own views and beliefs(even if we think they are crap)
- If they want to die, that's there business I guess. But medical care means all medical care, including prenatal monitoring, prenatal vitamins, someone to unloop the umbilical cord during delivery so the baby doesn't loose O2, no one to help with the uterus shrinking after delivery to prevent hemorrhage or treatment for hemorrhage, no treatment for infections, etc... Refusing an induction isn't saying no to medical care, it's refusing what often leads to a c-section. No vaccines, well that's irresponsible and being a poor member of society. Not getting testing done, that's not too terrible - just might make their infant die if it turns out they are beta strep positive and the infant gets infected during birth. All of us need to be informed consumers of our medical care and make wise, informed decisions on that care - some of what is available (like Cytotec) isn't what's best for us.
- Personally, I think they are crazy. I am not against using a midwife, if you are having a perfectly normal, run of the mill pregnancy, but there are too many possible complications that can arise and harm the mother and the baby. I do believe in prenatal testing, just to be on the safe side and being under the care of a trained, licensed medical professional. As for the birth...well, you really should have someone who is skilled there. Anything can happen with a birth from a breech to failure to progress to distress for the baby and so on. And most hospitals have very nice, very relaxing birthing rooms available for those who don't want the clinical environment, but if you have to have an emergency C-section, it helps to have an operating room and staff close by. Don't get me started on those parents who refuse to vaccinate. We live in a scary world where often innocent people contract very scary diseases, many of which are easily preventable by a vaccine. I don't buy the autism/vaccine link, I believe that there has to be more than that and I would not be surprised if it is mostly genetic. Maybe its me, but I like medical science. I like living in a world where I don't have to worry about polio and the mumps or rubella and all those other diseases.
- I think that having no prenatal care is irresponsible. I am all in favor of a natural approach to pregnancy and childbirth, but that simple diagnostic tests and occassional monitoring of status is non-invasive, and could detect life-threatening conditions. Even the most low-risk populations of women can still have things go wrong. What if a woman had placenta previa and did not know it and suddenly went into labor? A woman can hemorrhage to death in as little as 8 minutes. There's no time to get help if that happens. Things can take a turn so quickly. That's a gamble I personally am not willing to risk. I simply could not live with myself in the event something horrible went wrong that could have been avoided. Doctors and hospitals can't control bad things from happening all the time either, but at least they are there to make the attempt and do everything possible in their power. As for not giving vaccinations, the autism scare has made a huge impact, and nobody is talking about the dozens of international, independent studies which have disproven the link between vaccinations and autism or other conditions. The people who choose not to vaccinate are depending on the rest of us to vaccinate our children so theirs don't get sick. Suddenly now all these rare diseases are starting to be seen more frequently, like pertussis (whooping cough), measles, and globally polio is starting to rear it's head again. So from a community health standpoint, not vaccinating is also irresponsible, but I still have to say I do support a parent's choice to make these decisions for their families. I just wish they were doing it from a truly educated background where they understand all the potential ramifications of not doing it, because I don't think they always do.
- I agree with Karen. I personally sought prenatal care all through my pregnancies, but I must admit, there really wasn't a reason to. That being said, there could have been something that medical intervention could have alleviated. Better to err on the safe side. That's my opinion.
- i think they have some sort of phobia against intervention..so (to me) phobia=mental problem. as far not getting their kid vaccinated...its their kid...but studies show that kids who don't get vaccinated are starting to bring back illness's that are generally not seen anymore and causing kids who have been vaccinated to get sick...and the parents just shrug their shoulders like 'so - the vaccine didn't work then anyway, not my fault' which is totally freaking ignorant and i can see why the medical community is up in arms about it. its a lose lose situation- to debate about vaccines. everyone has a opinion and feels really strong about it.
- -That they are Ignorant, and should be held financially responsible for ANY serious medical conditions that occur to themselves or their Baby during & after the Pregnancy.
- Maybe this sounds bad..... However, I don't really have an opinion. It's there bodies and their kids.... I don't care what happens to either of them.
- Evolution in action.... the babies die sooner, so they don't pass on the stupidity of the parents, or the babies never mature properly, so they never marry and make babies of their own. In Roman Times, a father had absolute rights over his children....even to kill them.
- i myself would never object to the recommended prenantal testing..its there for a reason...alot of infant deaths can be prevented with testing...and why put yourself thru it?.....everyone has there own choice tho...
- I think it's selfish of them to deny their baby medical care. Yeah, THEY might not want medical care, but if their baby comes out sick or deformed, or even worse, dead, I'm sure that baby would have some bad feelings about it (if the baby knew what was going on, of course). I know those women will sit there and say "well, women have given birth for a long time with no help from anyone" and yadda yadda, but how many sick babies or babies that didn't make it were born back in those days with no medical care around?
- I don't understand the fear of induction.. it makes no sense to me. It doesn't hurt anything. There has only been one vaccine that I declined, and that was for the chicken pox. They have no data on how long it lasts, and as my doctor put it, it could only last 10 years. The doctor and I agreed it would be a better inoculation to let my son get the pox.
